After five seasons of snake Kai, many of the fan favorites from the original Karate Kid film trilogy have already emerged to join the fray with series stars William Zabka and Ralph Macchio.
However, there is one key character from the original film franchise that has yet to appear on TV. That would be Hilary Swank, the star of the fourth film Karate Kid 4: The New Adventure, which also featured Pat Morita’s final performance as Mr. Miyagi.
Actress commented on returning to the series
Critics weren’t exactly kind when Karate Kid 4 opened in theaters. But given the place the film and its characters have in the overall story, many fans are still hoping to see Swank’s Julie Pierce finally meeting Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence and Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso.
In a new interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Swank directly addressed the possibility of returning to this universe. And she revealed that the ball is not in her court.
Swank seems to be open to the idea of returning as Julie in the Netflix series, but says that, so far, no one has tried to contact her, let alone received an offer to return.
“I will not appear in Snake Kainobody asked me to show up at Snake Kai”said Swank, via people. “A lot of people ask if I’m going to participate, it’s like, the number one question I get.”
She added: “But nobody called me! And it’s so funny isn’t it, that’s the thing fans ask me the most, and nobody called me?
“After today that will change, Hilary Swank, I can promise you”said interviewer Ryan Seacrest, in response to the actress.
Hilary Swank will or will she not come back in Snake Kai?
This revelation came shortly after another recent interview where Swank dodged a question about Snake Kai.
But this new interview makes it much clearer where Julie Pierce is with Snake Kai.
Ahead of the Season 5 premiere, the show’s creators also astutely teased that a Julie Pierce return could be in the works, leading some fans to wonder if she would appear in Season 5, but that ended up hanging around for a possible return in Season 6.
“All we can say about her is that we love Hilary Swank,” said co-creator Jon Hurwitz in an interview with Fandom. “We think she is a phenomenal actress and we love her character in this franchise. She was taught by Mr. Miyagi and she is someone who is important to the Karate Kid universe.”
He added: “We can’t say if she will come back, we can’t say how she would come back if she did. We can say that we talked about her and maybe we met her, maybe we are already working with her, maybe not. We can’t tell you anything! It will remain an issue until she appears or the series ends.”
Currently, the fifth season of Snake Kai It hasn’t gone into production yet, so it should take a while to return to Netflix. Perhaps this gives time for Swank to be reintroduced into the story, and her character Julie to reemerge. Either way, we’ll have to wait and find out…
